Say Goodbye To The Tomatoes

Frost Tomatoes
Well two nights of frost finally did in the last of my summer crops. 12 tomato plants, 1 cucumber and 2 eggplant.
The cucumber should never have been around at this time of year anyway. It only had one cucumber on it, but boy it would have been nice to harvest just that one during the winter.
The Tomato plants at this time of year were an experiment and a luxury. Overall the tomatoes did pretty good. The Jetsetter, Glacier, Manitoba and Taxi verities that stated they would bloom down to 40 degrees did hold true. I have been harvesting respectable amounts from them for the past three months. I even had a Brandy Boy and a Bucks County which are defiantly summer verities that were still producing some nice fruit.
Next year I'll try covering the plants when there is the chance of frost to try to keep them a little longer.
But the kitchen will now suffer. Salsa, spaghetti, soups, salads and stir fries (hey all 5 with a 's').
I dread having to use store bought now.
